digital prints

I use a pseudonym to sign prints as ‘digitita’. The meaning is digit (fingers) with the suffix ita. Small female fingers.

History of my studies and digital prints: 2000-2020

First studies in digital technology after workshop by Dianne Longley (Central School of Art). Subject: Female fertility.  22 plates,  6 by 4 inches.

The computer age arrived and I learned to manipulate images through Photoshop.  The image was transferred via film, which was then placed on a metal plate (cut to size and prepared with photographic solution).  Then this was exposed to UV light.  The advantage for me was to do this at home, with sunlight.  I had a small printing press with which I printed small prints.  After making and storing large paintings, I was keen to develop the importance of small art works.  This was an environmentally thoughtful act.

I exhibited in Adelaide and Canberra (Vivid Exhibition of Alternative Uses of Photography). Photography was just a fun tool. Then on travels, with my new Smart Phone S.G. (Note 2) I recorded or drew people on phones walk by street art, ignoring signs.  This was evident in South American countries.  Tamas an old term, indicates indifference.

I also used images of Litfassaule from Europe which are large round advertising columns.  I manipulated street art and posters, with people walking past on phones.
